History

The recording project “Family” was birthed from a simple prayer.  “Lord, where are the songs that represent the sounds of our region and Your heart and destiny for us in Atlantic Canada?”  Stephanie Mainville asked the Lord this question in the fall of 2001 during a gathering of intercessors for the Worship Together conference in Saint John, New Brunswick.  Perhaps the music had been written and hidden away or stored up for a particular time or season.  So the question turned into a request for the Lord to release what already had been written and possibly unheard and should the Lord see fit, to give her a song that would call forth the sounds, worship and destiny of Atlantic Canada.

What followed was “The Maritime Song”; a song with lyrics that read:

Flow Lord, make our people free.  Take us to Your sea.  Our hearts hear Your voice through the wind and the waves.  There’s a sound that’s calling me.  God of the islands and all who smell the sea – the Atlantic, you Maritimes, rise up!  The Lord’s come to meet you and He’s dancing.”

The Maritime Song” demo was recorded and released in January 2002 at St. James the Less Church with Tim Davidson.  The response from the region was enthusiastic and lead many people to intercede for our provinces as well as be released in the dance to celebrate and thank the Lord for the unique people He created us to be.  He has been guiding us from the time the Native people welcomed the European settlers about 400 years ago.  Our history includes stories of triumph and pain.  We need to thank God for the unique sounds we can offer in praise and acknowledge the hope and healing that the Lord wishes to extend to us all.

Family” tells the story of our history and challenges us to rise up into our full calling and destiny as a people.

“My prayer is that as we humble ourselves, acknowledge and turn away from those things that bring and have brought the Lord pain, the Lord will bring healing to our land and release our song and sound to reach the nations of the world.”

During a conference in PEI in August of 2003, Stephanie knew it was time to move ahead with recording and releasing this project.  This was when she saw Graham Ord for the first time, as he was the worship leader for this gathering.  He called out during a session for the sounds of the fiddles and the expression of our culture to be expressed in worship to the Lord.  At that time, there was no one prepared to respond musically and she knew that it was time for her to step out.  It was the final confirmation that she needed.  She had been seeking the Lord’s heart and asking Him to make a way for her to respond.

“This recording represents an offering of worship and praise to the Lord from the eastern lands.   May it call to the deep things of the Lord in all of us.  We are ready for You to come in Your Glory, Lord.  Don’t just come for a moment; please stay for awhile!”
