ECMA 2006 Showcase Artist Revealed

Stephanie Mainville to perform at ECMA "Girls Night Out" Showcase

Charlottetown (December 7, 2005) - The 2006 East Coast Music Awards showcase performers were revealed this morning at Myron's Cabaret, in downtown Charlottetown. To properly represent this year’s diverse line up of talent, three new multi-genre showcase stages have also been announced for the ECMA 2006, which will be taking place in Charlottetown from February 23–27.

Joining long-time favourites such as the Rock Showcase, Roots Room, the Sneak Peek Rising Stars Showcase, Songwriter’s Circle and Songwriter’s Café, the new showcases will include Girls Night Out, Beyond the Border and From Roots to Rock.

Stephanie Mainville will be performing music from her debut album, Family, during this year's ECMAs, in the "Girls Night Out" Showcase at the Delta Prince Edward Ballroom Mainstage on Friday, February 24th.

All showcase performers submitted their names to the ECMA selection committees in September. The final choices are made by juries of industry professionals representing the ECMA’s five regions: Prince Edward Island , mainland Nova Scotia , Cape Breton , Newfoundland & Labrador and New Brunswick .

“The ECMA’s may be a great party and business opportunity, but most importantly, the event is a celebration of the best in local music,” said Campbell Webster, ECMA 2006 event committee chair. “The variety of styles and the sheer talent represented in the 2006 ECMA showcases guarantee that music will be at the forefront this February in Charlottetown.”

The ECMA will also be announcing more performances over the next month, including the Soundwaves School program, a concert series at the Confederation Centre of the Arts, a series of community partnered stages that include Acadian, All Ages, Bluegrass, Jazz/Blues and Black Vibes and The Yamaha 72-Hour Jam.

“There's something for everyone,” said Marc Chouinard, East Coast Music Association board chair. “The caliber of artists this year is phenomenal; Charlottetown is definitely the place to be in February!”
