Country Music Week Gospel and Roots Showcase Artists Announced

Toronto, ON – (August 16, 2006) The Canadian Country Music Association today released the names of eight artists who have won performance slots at either the Roots or Gospel Showcases, to be held during Country Music Week 2006, September 8-11, in Saint John, NB.  Three hail from the East Coast area.

Both showcase events put the artists front and centre at the annual celebration of Canadian music.  Artists will perform for both the local community, plus leading national and international entertainment industry members.  The artists were selected through a screening process using a national jury, which began Spring of 2006.

The Gospel Showcase will be held Sunday, September 10 at the historic Imperial Theatre in downtown Saint John , and promises to be a night of sweet sounds and unique collaborations.  The Roots Roadhouse Showcase, hosted by Jimmy Rankin, will be held Monday, September 11 at the Delta Brunswick Hotel.  

Tickets for both events can be bought during Country Music Week at the CCMA Registration Desk in the Saint John Trade and Convention Centre for $15.00 (per event).

Country Music Week 2006 culminates with the CCMA Awards the night of September 11, featuring appearances by George Canyon , Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Aaron Lines, Corb Lund, Aaron Pritchett with Tyler Connolly of Theory of a Deadman, The Road Hammers and Michelle Wright. The show will air live at 8pm (8:30NT) on CBC TV across Canada , with encore airings on CMT in Canada .  The broadcast will also be carried in the U.S. on Great American Country (GAC), and in Australia on CMC (Country Music Channel).

Jason McDonald
