CANADIAN RADIO STAR
As you may have heard, Stephanie had a great time in Toronto at Canadian Music Week. Popular vote combined with the decisions by a panel of judges chosen by Songwriters Association of Canada (SAC) resulted in Stephanie being selected as this year’s first runner up in the 2009 Canadian Radio Star – 16th annual national song writing competition. Steph's new radio single Wait finished second behind this year’s Grand Prize winner: “Tonight, I Love You”, by BC band The Latency.
The announcement was made during CMW in Toronto at the Library Bar, Fairmont Royal York Hotel. All of the regional finalists had an opportunity to perform at the Radio Star showcase – a Grand Finale which included performances by host Andy Kim. Kevin Fox joined Stephanie on stage to accompany her on guitar and background vocals.
Regional finalists were picked by participating radio stations and public on-line voting based on the creativity, originality, composition, lyrics, melody and radio airplay potential of their songs. Presented by the Songwriters Association of Canada and supported by Astral Media and Canadian Music Week, the event discovers potential stars at the regional, grassroots level and showcases them to the music industry and general public alike. Stephanie was the New Brunswick regional winner as selected by C98.9 Big John FM in Saint John.
Canadian Music Week is Canada's leading annual entertainment event dedicated to the expression and growth of the country's music, media and entertainment industries. Combining four information-intensive conferences; a trade exposition; a film festival; four awards shows and the nation's largest New Music Festival – Canadian Music Fest - CMW was held over a four-day period from March 11 to March 14, 2009 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel and various downtown Toronto venues, attracting participants from across the globe. We have just launched a new YouTube Channel to feature Stephanie's music and video blog posts. The site currently features two vlog entries that were recorded by Tony Tobias during CMW. Kevin Fox is continuing the production work on Out of Nowhere. The final stages of tracking and mixing are now underway. We're hoping to have the album ready by sometime in May.
