Congratulations to New Brunswick's ECMA nominees (06/02/28)

FREDERICTON (CNB) - New Brunswick's distinguished nominees and award-winners at the East Coast Music Awards (ECMAs) held in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island Monday, Feb. 27 have been congratulated by Wellness, Culture and Sport Minister Percy Mockler.

New Brunswick had nominees spread over 13 award categories, and seven nominations for the music industry awards.

"The ECMAs are a celebration of the best and brightest talents of Atlantic Canada," Mockler said. "I am very proud to see such a strong showing by New Brunswick artists at this year's awards. Having New Brunswick nominees in 20 categories, and three New Brunswickers winning awards, is a testimony to the talent of our province's artists and music-industry representatives."

Matt Anderson, Ode à l'Acadie and Darcy Mazerolle each picked up two nominations. The other New Brunswick nominations went to Ross Neilsen, Art Richard, Jasper Wood, Roger Lord, Christian 'Kit' Goguen, Marie-Jo Thério, Sandra LeCouteur, Hot Toddy/Isaac & Blewett, Stephanie Mainville, Les Païens, Norman Learo, MC Sean One, The Turning, Borlico, East Coast Music Show, Steve Dupuis, Malkin Music, Musiplex, Lynn Daigle, Sébastien Clavette, Grant Kerr, Marc Xavier LeBlanc, and the Fredericton Playhouse.

During the Industry Awards Show & Dinner held Sunday, the Fredericton Playhouse was awarded the Venue of the Year Industry Award, while John Tickner was presented the Stompin' Tom Connors Award for his work with the New Brunswick Symphony.

Ode à l'Acadie received the Enregistrement francophone de l'année (Francophone Recording of the Year).

"Congratulations to all New Brunswick winners and nominees. You are all winners in your respective fields, whether as musicians, performers, or as leaders of the music industry," Mockler said. "I also want to congratulate the City of Fredericton for being chosen to host the East Coast Music Awards in 2008."
