FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Stephanie Mainville Releases New Album Out of NowhereSAINT JOHN [September 16, 2009] – Stephanie Mainville - Out of Nowhere is the title of the second recording by the talented New Brunswick singer/songwriter. The new CD goes on sale this Saturday, September 19, 2009. Mainville is an ECMA Nominee and multi-award winner who has appeared in official showcases at the Junos, Canadian Country Music Week, Canadian Music Week, Music New Brunswick Week and 6 times at the East Coast Music Awards. Her second album began with a week of 'live-off-the-floor' sessions recorded in Toronto's legendary Canterbury Studios. Under the direction of renowned multi-instrumentalist Kevin Fox, a talented group of musicians worked together with Fox and Mainville to create a beautiful reflective acoustic pop album. Fox is originally from Halifax and is well known in the Canadian music scene as an exceptional vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. He is currently on a cross-Canada tour supporting his own sophomore recording Songs for Cello & Voice. Fox has worked as a musical director for the Juno Awards and has recorded and performed live with a long list of Canadian musicians including Celine Dion, Tom Cochrane, Feist, Alanis Morisette, Chantal Kreviazuk, Raine Maida, Gordie Sampson, Shaye, Melanie Doane, Jully Black and many, many others. Out of Nowhere is the realization of a dream that Fox and Mainville had over 25 years ago. As childhood friends the young musicians talked of one day recording an album together. Beyond producing, engineering and mixing the album, Fox supports every song on the album with his cello and voice. “When I asked Kevin to produce the record it wasn’t because he was my friend,” says Mainville. “It was because I think he has the same ear. Since we both grew up being trained as classical musicians I think he ‘hears’ music the way I do and so our approach to pop music is similar in many ways.” Mainville wanted to take her music and lyrics in a new direction that would help her reach a much wider audience, so she turned to Fox for help in developing the new sound she was looking for. Mainville says the songs on the new album are more about her thoughts on life and relationships. “You can’t really label it gospel, but my faith is still in my work. The real focus is on life stories.” she said. “I had this great conversation with a friend of mine who told me she would never darken the door of a church or a gospel concert. But she told me that I had stories to tell and something to say and she encouraged me to write songs that more people could relate to.” Her new music has already started making an impact on a wider national audience. Wait, the first radio single from Out of Nowhere, was chosen as New Brunswick’s Regional winner for the 2009 Canadian Radio Star national song writing competition and went on to represent the province in the national finals. Following nation-wide fan voting, the jurors from the Songwriters Association of Canada chose Stephanie's song as the winner of this year’s 1st Runner Up award which was handed out following the Canadian Radio Star Finals Showcase during Canadian Music Week in Toronto this past March. Violinist Hugh Marsh makes a special guest appearance on the album adding his unmistakable signature sound to an atmospheric song called Hold Me Down. Marsh is best known for his work on Hollywood’s biggest soundtracks (Chronicles of Narnia, X-Men) and recording and touring with Bruce Cockburn and Loreena McKennitt. Mainville will be touring throughout Atlantic Canada to support the new album, starting with an official CD release concert at The Blue Olive in Saint John on October 30, 2009.
