Micah and Katie Peterson

27 February 2006

One thing that I must say that I really do love, is being a side man.

It's not all about coming together and playing the music, although that part sure is special.

Something that I absolutely adore is getting together with people, people that I don't necessarily know at all and working with them to play the "show". I love how in a short period of time, you can "grow" with people in a sense...

Over a 4 day span I had the immense pleasure of having 4 new people come into my life, and me in theirs.... and share in the experience of coming together in a short time to put it together. 5 new people who I consider my friends and in a sense "family", which coincidentally is Stephanie's albums name!

Music has always done something special in me and I believe it always will.

This last weekend was no exception. And, I believe that this last weekend was something rather special.. I've done a few gigs like this before, get a gig... a bunch of people are hired, get together to jam/rehearse for a couple/few days then play a show or two. This time... it felt special.. at least for me.

There was an open-ness in every member of the "team". 2 of my good friends, Phil and Moe (moe and I split the gig's 4 shows), Tim, Stephanie, Kenn, Kevin and Steph's mom...

I've always enjoyed playing in original acts.... this has certainly given me a desire to do more of it.

Anyways... if any of you read this (I know Kenn found my blog prior to the gig ), I just want to tell you guys that you carry a special place in my heart. It was great, and if you ever feel that you could use my services again, I would love to serve you!

A truly great time.

One thing that I think really comes to mind for me is that it's almost just as important to try and "connect" with those you are trying to make music with as it is the notes you're gonna be playing.... because the true sharing of the experience with the other people helps determine the mood of the music you will make. (hope that makes a bit of sense)

Essentially, what I mean is that even though this was Stephanie's showcase, I felt just as much it was mine, Phil's, Moe's, Tim's, Kevin's, Kenn's and Steph's Moms (sorry, I've already forgotten the name.. but I remember how sweet a lady you are). That's what I mean by team.

Anyways, peace all!

ECMAs

Another big congrats to my friend Stephanie Mainville, whose album "Family" was also graced (pardon the ecclesiastical pun) with an ECMA nomination for Gospel Album of the Year! Stephanie has the distinction, in addition to being an accomplished violinist, songwriter and singer, of being the sister of one of my best friends since high school and my ex-landlady (while the aforementioned high school chum was teaching in Japan, I took over his basement apartment in the house he shared with his sis and her lovely family). There will hopefully be more written about my adventures with her brother Charles, as we are laying plans for a road trip this summer, for our second visit to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania for NEARfest.

The Maritime Song

Stephanie Mainville was nominated for two Maritime Gospel Awards as well as being asked to perform her up beat prayer for the Maritimes with her Maritime song, which is featured on her CD "Family". Micah and I had the privilege of joining Stephanie on stage as she preformed the opening number. Micah was playing the drums on stage with many other great musicians, while I dance a Highland/Celtic dance along with 9 other terrific dancers. It was a blessing to be a part of such a powerful move of God.
