Last year I took February off. I didn't go anywhere. I read more, played more, prayed more, ate less, spoke less and swapped Facebook for a walk, a book or a cleaner kitchen floor. I still had to do laundry of course and feed my kids but I lived for a little over a month on the other side and I loved it! Being a mother of four - make that a homeschooling mother to boot, and a self-employed musician, writer/arranger who volunteers many hours beside, I needed a break. What would the new word be for that a stay-cay? A break-stay? Break-eh? Whatever we chose to name it, it was good for me. It proved by doing less, I got more done. By investing in myself and my realtionship with God, my family, and silence, I gained strength and vision. I was reminded what I'm doing here. Partly this includes doing things, investing in the lives of others, staying "up to date" and yet there truly is a place of knowing that my worth doesn't center around what I can do.

I'm in my forties now. Yep, my metabolism has changed, I colour my hair more frequently and I cry more easily. I have so many precious friends right now who need health and healing to their bodies or those who have suffered loss. I'm grateful for each new day. I'm grateful for the mercies that come my way. I'm going to spend a month focused on these things and lifting my vision higher so I can see and experience even greater things in my life and maybe even yours.

The Finale

Hello friends!

I wish to thank you all for the joy of being an artist among you in this grand community this past year. My travels have taken me westward this year and some lovely opportunities at home. I've experienced watching and supporting some fellow artists in the region and had the privilege of them joining me as well. It is a wonderful treasure we share and I'm anxious for what the year will bring.

2011 ended with a beautiful Christmas Eve service at Saint John Vineyard Church, a gathering of the International Community in Saint John and a special private event between one man named David and a woman named Victoria. I was grateful and blessed with these invitations to share music for these three special occasions. Thank you for having me and the band with you to celebrate the season. I already have bookings for next year. I know, I know. We all need a good break from all the festivities and even hearing about more makes one a wee bit tired.

Another round of applause to the band - Tim, Sheila, Richard, Carolyn, Lydia, John, Cynthia and Kenn. You are the best!

This year I start off being the Special Occasions Queen - Valentine's Evening at The Schnitzel Parlour on February 11 in Fredericton. St. Paddy's Day with the band at The Vintage Bistro on March 17. Check out the dates on this page for when I will be in your area. I will make a few appearances throughout the winter and will be actively writing and caring for my family at the same time. Ta da!

Christmas in Kilarney, Bourbon Quarter and All Points In-Between

Greetings of the Season! I've recovered from last weekend enough to write about it. Many thanks to the Verners at The Bourbon Quarter in Saint John for hosting a lovely night of Celtic Christmas cheer. We enjoyed the tables of well-wishers which included the lovely ladies from Merle Norman. It's criminal to walk around looking that good. Not to be outdone by the lovely table of musicians that made it in for the night. Dave captured it all on film, Cynthia was relishing in her good health, Martin and Emily grinned proudly and we danced around one another as we grabbed instruments that for the most part John bought. I'm dreaming of a white and Imperial Christmas next year but wherever we are let there be heart and colours of red and gold. Rothesay tonight - going with the FLO.

Lift Off From the Vintage Bistro in Hampton

Last night 110 people hopped on board Old Man Winter airlines and with the fuel from our merry little hearts we achieved lift off! Captain, First Officers, attendants and all travellers settled in for a smooth ride nestled beside family, friends and neighbours. What a time! Riley doodled, while the Captain fiddled - Grampy told wise tales. Jack won the draw and we all yelled "Yeehaw", and the band won our hearts all night long. Duke was there with his feet on the ground as his toe tapped to favourite jigs. A trio of strings with parents all grins delighted and lifted us up. Loie, Fran, Thomas -the whole clan, had eyes filled with joy and delight. As I made my way home with the sound guy in tow I marvelled at what gift was this night. Next stop - The Bourbon Quarter, tomorrow evening 8:30pm. All aboard.

Festive Fredericton!

Greetings Everyone!

I wanted to express my thanks to all the people who came out to two concerts this weekend in Fredericton, NB. The band enjoyed greatly our time at The Schnitzel Parlour on Friday night to a beautiful and enthusiastic crowd which included friends from the Kingston Peninsula and a delightful table of Newfoundlanders. Thank you so much Uwe and Beate for hosting us. Your outfits were an added cherry on top of a sweet night. Your hospitality and German fare was top notch! There was much merriment and dancing. Don't miss our return on February 11, 2012 for a Valentine-themed evening.

We said good bye to Richard as there was no room for our little drummer boy at the next concert - Brunswick Street Baptist Church.

The beautiful church with the extraordinary chandelier was filled with the young and young at heart. Toes were tapping and hands clapping along to some seasonal favourites from the sounds of the Middle East to Mabou, Kilarney to the Caribbean. What a treat to hear the choir as they sang from the balcony above, like the wind at our backs. Pastor Greg was a man on a mission and his dear wife Margaret won our hearts with her amazing supper; a taste of summer. Pastor Terry told us stories of hope and reconciliation. Anthony got us "set up" and Kenn helped us sound like we have a Christmas CD. :)

Old Man Winter can't keep us down and soon we'll be heading to your town. See you on Thursday night, Hampton.
